New York - Lincoln Center
Dear SYSO Students and Parents,
The SYSO board and the directors have planned a very special and exciting spring trip. You and your SYSO friends will be playing on stage at Lincoln Center in New York City! This trip includes a Master Class Workshop for the entire orchestra with a guest conductor from Lincoln Center, plus, a jazz band workshop with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Education Department. We are topping that off with tickets to Dizzy Gillespie’s Club Coca Cola to hear Wynton Marsalis conduct the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Marcus Roberts and Bobby Hutcherson, featuring the music of Herbie Hancock. We have not had the opportunity to play in such a famous venue since our Carnegie Hall Concert. Best of all, your parents will be able see and hear our concert at Alice Tully Hall free of charge.
The dates of our trip are April 22-23, 2010. We will leave shortly after school on Thursday, April 22nd and return late on Friday evening after the Wynton Marsalis concert. The total cost of the trip will be $375.00. This includes all of our workshops, performance fees, hotel, transportation, and all meals except for Friday lunch (Whole Foods, conveniently located at Columbus Circle). We will be staying at The Hilton Hasbrouck Heights/Meadowlands, & Executive Meeting Center in N.J.
It is very important for the entire orchestra and jazz band to participate in the workshop opportunities and the concert. You all know that we need everybody in order to sound our best. This is not the type of trip that we can take every year, and we have worked out the venue and repertoire for the musicians in this year’s group.
Please return the form below with your deposit of $150.00. Please mail your form as things sometimes have a habit of sitting in music cases or getting lost in portfolios! Your prompt payment allows us to make the necessary reservations for our buses, hotels, dining, and entertainment. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact either of the directors.
